Ms. Joanne Pearson
Joanne Pearson was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Alabama on March 13, 2010. Ms. Pearson was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 2005.  She graduates this spring with 2 Associate Degrees from Calhoun Community College, and will pursue her Baccalaureate Degree at ASU.  Joanne lives alone with her autistic daughter and her parents live nearby.  She underwent a Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass and suffered severe side effects that left her using a wheelchair for the rest of her life.  Joanne is involved in numerous community activities such as Habitat for Humanity, Girl Scouts, and Autism Support & Awareness Groups.  She had a career in Broadcast Traffic Management and made a career change which brought her to Huntsville.  Joanne enjoys living a life of service to others and will continue to do so as long as she is able. Her platform is Focusing on Ability: 
Taking the D-I-S out of Disability.
